I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at TOBB University of Economics and Technology and a research affiliate at the Centre for Analytical Finance (CAFIN) and the Economic Research Forum (ERF).
My research focuses on policy-relevant topics in International Finance, including exchange rate regimes, currency crises, and international capital flows. I also conduct extensive research on the Turkish economy, utilizing diverse macro and micro datasets, such as the Household Budget Survey. My studies cover topics like peer effects and their impact on household consumption-saving decisions, along with other critical economic issues, including exchange rate behavior. I served as the Rapporteur for the Turkish Ministry of Development’s Special Commission Report on "Consumption and Savings Trends in Turkey," prepared for the 11th Development Plan of the Republic of Turkey in 2018. As an advocate for gender equality and increased women’s representation, I have recently broadened my work to include Gender Economics, focusing on the impact of women’s leadership on firm performance.
I have completed my Ph.D. and M.A. in International Economics at the University of California, Santa Cruz, USA, and earned my B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Bilkent University, all as a full-scholarship recipient. I also hold an MBA from Middle East Technical University, Ankara. Before transitioning to academia, I worked for five years in project management and business development at Aselsan Electronics Inc., Turkey, and Delta Faucet Co., Indiana, USA. My industry experience continues to shape my research allowing me to connect academic research with real-world perspectives. I have held visiting positions at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and the University of Guelph, Canada.
I am fluent in Turkish (native), English, and German. I also contribute occasionally to media outlets, offering insights on economic research and broader policy issues. At TOBB ETU, I teach courses in economics fundamentals, international economics, and macroeconomic theory across both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Research Interests:
International Finance, Macroeconomics, Applied Econometrics, Turkish Economy, Household Consumption & Savings, Gender Economics.
